“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us -- whatever we ask -- we know that we have what we asked of him,” [1 John 5:14-, NIV]
The New Year has come. When the time of year comes, I am often reminded of God’s declaration at the end of the book of Revelation, “Behold, I have made all things new.” Those who belong to Christ must see the world with new eyes. When we look at the world and its despair, we see the potential that only Jesus could resurrect. While the world is preoccupied with talking about the end of the world, we personally know that the end is not what’s on the horizon; we see a new beginning. The church of Jesus Christ is committed to God’s intention to make all things new. And this is why we should pray and pray hard for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. In fact, John teaches us “that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us and if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him.” That is a pretty bold statement –unless it is completely true. And if it is completely true, imagine the possibilities of what we could do together as Christians if we’re praying for God’s will to be done. This is the challenge that I want to lay before you for this New Year: That we will pray for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Prayer is the means by which God’s will is done on earth. Our desire and passion for His will to be done on earth and our boldness in asking (by the blood of Christ) determines what happens down here. What a remarkable truth! Because this is true, we’ll pray. We’ll make prayer the heartbeat of this church, inviting the Holy Spirit of power to bring a new and fresh wind among us. We will lift the Name of Jesus high and expect tremendous results. We will love Him more than our own lives and not shrink back when the enemy threatens us. God is Faithful and behold, He is making all things NEW. Revival is upon us.
Pray with confidence,
George
