There once was a day in eternity past,
A Righteous One willingly gave all He had,
All kingdoms, all glory all riches all lands,
All power, dominion He held in His hands.
But joy for His throne He most surely had not
For all of creation was fallen and lost.
The subjects of His vast dominion were caught
Deep under the Word long enacted by fraud.
Deceivingly asking them, “What did He say?”
“Do you not consider Him selfish and vain?”
“Just simply discount all the Holy One wrought,”
“And you will find power –you too will be gods!”
And choosing to listen to that clever snake,
Presumption held captive those souls by a fake.
His silv’ry tongue fashioned shrewd, crafty, bold lies,
For he himself knew ‘he who breaks the Rule dies’.
And so all creation to darkness did fall,
And Satan so boasted: “I’m king over all!”
But God was not willing to let this remain:
A lying usurper, unworthy of fame,
Or kingdom or glory or riches or lands,
For nothing good ever had come from his hands.
So seeking to please the Good Father enthroned,
The Son said, “Here am I, behold now the scroll!:
Here written that I should set glory aside,
And come to a world where a curse still presides.”
The Son left the court of the Ancient of Days,
And then by a virgin came into the fray.
So simple, so humble, becoming a man,
The Son of God entered a cursed and parched land.
He entered the desert where wickedness reigned,
There greeted by shepherds when angels proclaimed:
“All Glory to God and on earth peace to men,”
And later the magi, by Star did God send.
All written for us that the wise might behold
The King has come just as the Scriptures foretold!
Now keep this thought, ponder it deep in your heart,
His Coming is finished now only in part!
He came the first time Holy Justice to please,
He’s coming again to see death stays deceased!
Then shall the curse ever be purged from this world,
And silvery-tongued serpents from dark thrones be hurled.
His righteous blood paid for the ultimate gift:
The grave shall be empty for all who are His.
For by one Word all of the world came to be,
And by one Word death shall eternally cease.
The Great King is now away building a Place,
Awaiting His Father’s Word, “Go, Son, Today!”
His House made of living stones higher does rise,
He builds New Jerusalem, passing the skies!
Our days are now certainly merry and bright,
The King shall return soon in Radiant Light!
Behold, it was written, and surely He came,
So how could we doubt that He’s coming to reign?
For since the Son cried, “Father, Your will, not mine!”
We now have good reason to gaze at the sky.
Merry Christmas!
